Many of my posts in recent months have ventured into much of the behind-the-scenes events that shape my business. This post certainly falls in that category.

In December, I announced the retirement of my consulting services and an extended pause of my membership (“Comms For Causes”). Since then, I’ve successfully wound down all of my client work except for one planning + design team that I continue to engage with for our state association of nonprofits. The remainder of my time is now spent serving folks through one-off strategy sessions—essentially bite-sized coaching or thought partnership, and in content creation mode for my Content Hero clients.
Winnowing down my revenue-generating activities so dramatically was a scary step and at times has felt like a big leap of faith. So when this message landed in my email inbox on January 30, it provided a much-needed boost to my waning self-confidence:
Congratulations! You have been selected to be an honoree at Pacific Business News’ 25th annual Women Who Mean Business Awards. This event honors outstanding women business leaders in Hawaii.

Of course I’m humbled to be in such good company, but the timing of this recognition aligned with another unexpected opportunity and strengthened my resolve to take an even bigger leap. In mid-April I’ll begin a nine-month journey to support other purpose-driven entrepreneurs as a business, money, and mindset coach. There’s not much more to share (yet), but I plan to chronicle my experience here on the blog and elsewhere as it unfolds.
In the meantime, nothing else will really change. Strategy sessions and Content Hero will fill the time that isn’t devoted to increasing caregiving for my partner, and cause-driven communications and marketing will continue to be an important thread in my personal pursuits and professional enterprises, and the heart of Jennifer Barrett Creative.
I’ve learned a lot from the beta launch of Content Hero which concludes at the end of March. While there were a few bumps in the road–several of which were life challenges that stole significant time and attention from work, I continue to refine our systems and incorporate the feedback from our early customers and plan to begin expanding our team to serve even more folks in the future.
Speaking of which, if you missed your chance to snag a spot the first time around, then here’s your next chance: I’m excited to officially open a few additional Content Hero spots today. Given the quick sell-out of the beta launch, these openings are sure to fill quickly. And for now, it’s one of only two ways to work with me one-to-one 😉
Thanks for reading, friend! I’ll be back soon with more helpful tips and resources to share.
