Books are one of my favorite things, so last month I decided to launch a monthly book giveaway to share some of my favorites. At the beginning of each month, I feature a recommended read and invite discussion around the topic of the chosen book. Of those who join the discussion, three winners will be selected at random to receive a free copy!
Featured book for September 2019

This month’s selection is Turning to One Another: Simple Conversations to Restore Hope to the Future by Margaret J. Wheatley. If you believe that we can change the world if we start listening to one another again, then this book is for you. (And if that sounds like a nice idea you’d like to believe in—then it’s for you, too!) While it comes in at just under 200 pages, you can easily skim through it in just a few hours. Broken into three sections, it’s largest is the third: Conversation Starters. This section has become a treasured resource to me when thinking about how best to initiate or frame difficult conversations in community-building work.
How to enter the giveaway
Entry is pretty simple! By September 30, send me a note—or post a comment at the bottom of this blog post OR on the Facebook announcement–sharing any of the following:
- A favorite tip or practice you’ve used to create a safe space for difficult conversations.
- A specific instance you’ve witnessed that exemplifies the power of good listening and the healing available when someone gives voice to their experience.
- Thoughts about how we can be better listeners—what does it require of us?
As always, I look forward to hearing (+ learning) from you!
