Awards & Recognition
Ms. Barrett was recognized as one of Pacific Business News’ ten Women to Watch at its 2013 Women Who Mean Business awards event and as one of Hawai‘i’s best and brightest young business leaders at its 2011 Forty Under 40 awards. During 2010, Jennifer was one of twelve people from across the U.S. selected for Papahānaumokuākea ‘Ahahui Alaka‘i, a ten-day, all expense paid, experiential leadership program on Midway Atoll sponsored by the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument. She has also served as a Pacific Century Fellow, an esteemed fellowship that encourages the development of long-term relationships between leaders young and old, united in their commitment to find creative solutions to the challenges facing the state of Hawai‘i.
Professional & Community Service
Ms. Barrett currently serves as the alternate for the Citizen-at-Large seat on the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands Coral Reef Ecosystem Reserve Advisory Council, on the planning committee for Nā Lei Aloha Foundation’s annual Bridge of Friendship, and as the president of Hawai‘i Nature Hui. A sampling of her past roles include serving as a member of the global steering committee for the IUCN’s Commission on Education and Communication, serving on the board of the Council for Certification in Volunteer Administration, chairing the community advisory council for the Kaulunani Urban & Community Forestry Program, and serving as the education chair for the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council. In addition to teaching an online course on community engagement for NTEN, she has been a guest speaker for several cohorts of the Weinberg Fellows program in Hawai‘i, and is frequently invited to advise organizations on topics including strategic communications, stakeholder engagement, and volunteer management.
